Katha & Pravachan

Ancient Wisdom in Simple Language

Katha and Pravachan on Asthawaani bring the eternal teachings of Sanatan Dharma into easy, relatable language. Through Shrimad Bhagwat Katha, Ramayan Katha, Shiv Mahapuran Katha, Devi Bhagwat Katha and structured Gita Pravachan, our learned vaktas connect the deepest scriptural truths to the questions that arise in modern households — career, parenting, money, grief, purpose and the search for inner peace. Every katha is presented in the traditional sapta-aha (seven-day) or short three-day format, with bhajan, vyas-puja and prasad woven in.

What is Katha?

Katha is the most ancient and most beloved devotional storytelling tradition of Bharat. In it, stories of God, avataras, rishis and saints are narrated with deep meaning, classical music and devotional emotion. A skilled katha-vachak does not merely recite — he transports the listener into the leela itself, so that the heart becomes a witness rather than just an audience.

What is Pravachan?

Pravachan is a focused spiritual discourse on a specific scripture or theme — explaining shlokas, drawing out life lessons, and offering practical sadhana for the modern listener. While katha leans on storytelling, pravachan leans on analysis, comparison and direct application to one's own life.

Kathas We Regularly Offer

Shrimad Bhagwat Katha (7-day), Ramayan Katha (Sundar Kand, Uttara Kand, full Ramayan), Shiv Mahapuran Katha, Devi Bhagwat Katha (Navaratri), Gita Pravachan (chapter-wise 18-day series), Hanuman Charitra and seasonal kathas around festivals like Janmashtami, Radhashtami, Shivratri and Govardhan Puja.

Who Can Listen?

Anyone of any age, gender, profession, religion or background can listen. There is no requirement of fluency in Sanskrit or prior reading. Our vaktas use the simplest words, modern examples and local idioms so that even first-time listeners feel directly addressed.

Sponsoring a Katha at Home

Devotees can sponsor a katha as a yajaman in the name of their family, ancestors or for any sankalp like good health, marriage, child, business success or moksha for departed souls. Asthawaani arranges the full vidhi — vyas-peeth, mala, shringar, vaktas, musicians, mahaprasad and live broadcast for family abroad.

Online vs On-Site Kathas

Asthawaani offers both. Online kathas are delivered live via YouTube and WhatsApp with two-way Q&A. On-site kathas are arranged at the devotee's home, mandir, society hall or even at Vrindavan-Mathura ghats. Hybrid kathas allow family worldwide to participate together.

Why Katha Still Matters Today

In a time when information is everywhere but wisdom is rare, katha gives both information and the transformation of the listener. A single line from Bhagwat — "tat te 'nukampam susamikshamano…" — has the power to dissolve months of bitterness in seven minutes. That is why every Sanatan generation has insisted on katha as essential to dharmic life.
